Performance | Gal Levinson: Pais Tropical

July 23, 2020

October 10, 2020

Inspired by the album Pais Tropical, we put on raincoats and stepped out into the streets of South Tel Aviv. The heat became unbearable. We started sweating. More and more and more. And as we wiped layers of sweat from our bodies, we encountered the ongoing pain
and the desire to dance and make love. (like in Rio?)

It’s an album from 1977 of Brazilian music translated to Hebrew, which over time became part of the local cultural folklore. The familiarity of ‘I grew up with this’ alongside the feeling  of ‘It has nothing to do with me’ creates a sense of being out of place (Israel?)

And this led us to measure different movements and images in order to learn what remains, what is ours, and what is still left in our bodies, in this place and at this moment.
